Can you have it all? Fidel says yes... Fidel is a band that's made with all the good stuff. Imagine breeding the Police, The Beatles and Bob Marley with current powerhouses Incubus and the Deftones and you're almost there. Add a dash of original poetry, knowledge and sex, and you have Fidel. A soulfully intelligent band that isn't afraid to hit you hard, Fidel walks the line between hard riff-rock and songwriter-oriented story telling with a swagger born of stellar talent and experience. Fidel, formed in early 2000, consists of ex-members from renowned Mid-Atlantic acts including Colouring Lesson and Live Alien Broadcast. Charismatic frontman, Dave Hill (Vox/Guitar/Songwriter), brings to the table powerful guitar playing; sly, yet sometimes cheeky, lyrics and a strong voice which brings to mind comparisons to the early vocal stylings of Sting. Hill is also the songwriting mastermind behind the uniquely catchy yet substantive tunes. Driving the sound home is Jerome Maffeo on drums, with an energy that permeates the stage, the people on it, and the audience in front of it and rounds out the full-on assault known as Fidel. Mike "Bigga" Haight (Turntables) is the funky mix-master of Fidel. Bigga is able to add to the mix tongue-in-cheek samples and extra rhythm that only bad ass scratching can provide. Christian Valiente (Bass) smoothes the edges with his groove-heavy, visceral bass playing, punctuating every chord and beat. Fidel is based in Baltimore, Maryland, but has hit almost every major market from North Carolina to New York, gaining legions of fans wherever they play. Fidel also performs intense weekly acoustic shows at various venues in the Mid-Atlantic region, which has helped to establish a vast, loyal fan base. Aside from headlining most of their own shows, Fidel has opened for such national acts as Zebrahead and De La Soul. They also played a blistering set at the 2-day, 2001 WHFStival (RFK Stadium, Washington, DC) at which such bands as Staind, Incubus and Weezer headlined. Not only can you catch Fidel's music at a venue near you, you can also pick up their 8 song, self-titled CD, which captures all of the raw energy of their live show with an additional studio finish.
