LOCAL COMPILATION FEATURES THE LYRICAL VOICES OF AREA YOUTH!!!! Caleb Klauder, James Low, Carmina Piranha, Funk Shui, The Countrypolitans, Amelia, Purusa, Spigot, and many more!!! The Deep Roots project features some of Portland, Oregon's finest musicians who, for the fifth year in a row, have teamed up with a group of high school seniors to put out a powerful 22 song CD. In order to create this compilation, titled "Deep Roots 6," the song writers visited a high school classroom and put together a writing workshop for the students, sharing the tricks of their trade. Then the kids tried their own hand at lyric writing. Eventually, the musicians took the young writers' words and turned them into songs. The kids not only wrote the lyrics, but helped design the CD cover, took photographs, wrote press-releases, maintained an awesome web site (deeproots.com), and put together a sixth annual release concert. The music is great, and all proceeds from the CDs' sale go back into the project's production costs. Along the way, kids learn that hard work and perseverance pay off, and also learn that their voices are powerful and their ideas worthwhile.
