Dan Shuman's self-titled debut provides a 6-song glimpse into the workings of Shuman's personal brand of creative pop. The ethereal voicings of the album's opener, "Listen to the Underground" sparkle against a singing hammond and a two-part vocal harmony. "Campeon" is a catchy british rock manifesto by way of Dayton, Ohio. An improvised open section breaks up the straightforward eigth note drive of "She is the Vessel". Anders Nilsson's reverb-soaked guitar weaves an ECM-like color to open "Ride", a pining ballad with an optimistic heart.
