Dan Mangan seems to have a good thing going - gaining fans with every performance, he and his band are slowly working their way from Vancouver to the depths of your listening environment. With thoughtful delivery (think M. Ward, The Frames), Dan's weatherbeaten vocals serve as a foundation for layers of intricate instrumentation - blending the finer aspects of indie rock with the unadulterated spirit of folk. As an emerging young artist, Dan finds himself in the footsteps of Ryan Adams, Damien Rice or Bright Eyes, building a grass roots following of loyal listeners just a few ears at a time.

Mangan released Postcards and Daydreaming, his debut full-length album, independently in October 2005. The album follows up his successful short EP All At Once and contains twelve original tracks featuring Mangan’s unique and powerful vocals backed by an experienced full band.

Postcards and Daydreaming was produced and mixed by Daniel Elmes (Kyprios, Sweatshop Union) at DubVibe Productions in Vancouver. In addition to Mangan’s lead vocals and acoustic guitar work, the album features some of Western Canada’s strongest session players including drummer Randal Stoll (Tom Cochrane, KD Lang), bassist Kerry Galloway (KD Lang, Crash), cellist Finn Manniche, trumpeter Ryan Naso (Five Alarm Funk), vocalist Amy Arsenault (Autoviolet) and guitar ‘Edge-like” guitar melodies from Simon Kelly add depth to this sophisticated production.

With the support of a musical family, Dan took to the guitar and piano as a child and found himself memorizing Abbey Road’s side ‘B’ in no time. With a deep respect for creative integrity, Dan’s focus from day one has been to write lyrics strong enough to stand alone, apart from the melody. At the tender age of 23, Dan’s maturity as a lyricist is refreshing, his song-writing is powerful and his presence is undeniable.

Postcards and Daydreaming will showcase Dan Mangan to the Canadian music scene as a bright young artist with plenty of potential to unleash. From the first track Not What You Think It Is to the closing cut Reason To Think Aloud, there is a fluidity to this disc; the diverse styles and tones stand out but also complement each other. “Journal of a Narcoleptic”, the album’s first single, was picked up for MusicBC’s In The Mix 2006 Compilation and was licensed for an episode of CTV’s prime-time drama “Whistler”. A music video is scheduled for late Spring 2006. In Mangan’s lyrics we hear pleas to consider the bigger picture, narratives of an insomniac who is always asleep and the frustration of being constantly reminded of an old love. Tell your friends, tell your mom, you can even tell your dog, just tell somebody.
