Formed to play a birthday party, (seriously) Name Followed By Number was/is the brainchild of one Jacques Pelham and a wheelbarrow full of MOXY! Drawing from a proverbial pool of 'never was-es', Pehlam has surrounded himself with only the choicest cuts. 'Member Lionel Hutz? How about Mike, Tyson, and Tommy? Simple ring any bells? The sound has been described as math-pop, but what does that mean? I guess it could be the layers of intense instrumentation, stop-on-a-dime breaks, and 180 degree song changes. But then there's Pelham's voice...sweet and lulling. Like an erstwhile Ben Gibbard, without all of that OC mumbojumbo. Technical guitars? Check. High and tight rhythm section? Check. Danceable grooves? Check. Band description cliches? Double check. About the only worthwhile way to approach this band is at face value. Most bills are payed late. Shows rarely happen on time.
