In A Sense, the debut album from Daughters of Joy is a musical feast waltzing from jazz to metal, pop to doo-wop, math rock to spoken-word and beyond. In an effort to describe the sound, we made up a new category we like to call 'Avanternative'. Although we prefer to let the music speak for itself.

"A Drive" infuses poetry about fantasizing with Japanese spoken word over metallic mayhem, while "Work Song" paints a picture of the daily grind through slow, luxurious vocals over intricate drum and guitar tracks culminating in waves of controlled chaos. "Asleep With The Lights On" is a jazz tinged song of hope from a jaded lover ala Crissy Hynde, with a killer clarinet break and melodica finale. "It sounds like pictures."

This diverse collection was written, arranged, and performed by Brenda Scallon with the help of an incredible collection of musicians, featuring contributions from Sue Orfield (The Billy Tipton Memorial Saxophone Quartet, Albert Figures), Ken Stringfellow (The Posies, REM, Big Star), Keith Lowe (Fiona Apple, Wayne Horowitz, Crack Sabbath), Jen Jimenez (The Catch), Ben Smith (Heart, Love Mongers), Jeff Grienke (Land, Hana, Two Loons for Tea), and many others.

Enjoy....
