Biographical information on The Upper Twelve. The Upper Twelve is: Aric Wogan - Rhythm Guitar and Vocals Billy Johnson - Lead Guitar and Vocals Craig Matison - Bass Guitar and Vocals John St.Clair - Drums and Percussion/keyboard The Upper Twelve was formed in the spring 1998, in Santa Rosa Beach Florida, (Between Panama City and Pensacola) as a creative musical outlet for a group of musician/artist/surfers. It began as an instrumental improvisation experiment and quickly developed into a tight-knit, groove-driven rock and roll band. The four members draw upon thier wide range of musical influences to produce a trans-genre blend of songs ranging from serious to sarcastic, humorous to horrific. "Answers to a Rhetorical Question" is our first CD release. It was home-recorded, live, in the drummers house. The songs on this CD show a few of the styles that we play, (hard rock, reggae, groove-blues, soundtrack and rap-rock) but really only skim the surface of the material that we have. Interesting facts about The Upper Twelve. When this band was first formed, we were known as "The Hoi Polloi". We played many successful parties under that name during our first two years together, but were reluctant to add cover songs to our material just to get gigs in local clubs. This was one of the factors that caused us to have a "musical differences" break up that lasted almost two years. Over that time we all played in other projects, including a live improv three piece and an all cover band. We also managed to resolve our musical differences and bring our band back, better than ever. The only bad news was that "The Hoi Polloi" name was registered to another band. Why we call ourselves "The Upper Twelve" is somewhat of a secret that we keep only for our dedicated fans and if you should ever find out, you would be very lucky indeed. During the recording of this CD, two members started a custom home remodeling business to pay the bills. We have all worked together almost every day since then, even when the band was broken up; except when the surf is up, then we surf together. We are currently working to obtain enough funds to record our next CD in a professional studio. When we aren't playing music, we like to surf, ride mountain bikes, kite-board, and climb our in-house climbing walls. We like to stay somewhat active.
