Opion Somnium is a symphonic- often instrumental ambient/rock collective from Albuquerque, New Mexico, building melancholic yet monumental musical movements that make use of a wide variety of instruments. Such include; piano, violin, cello, bowed guitar, organ, singing saw, accordion, trumpet, harp, contra bass, synth, various percussion, with electronics and field recordings to create 'musical movements which reverberate enigmatically'- Ambientrance. Somnium has releases on ambient labels such as Drone Records (Germany), Zenapolae Records (Philadelphia), Kolorform (Seattle), and Goodnight Moon Music (New Mexico/ New York) with multiple self-releases being distributed throughout Europe on Drone Mailorder, who calls it, 'music for big emotions from this new discovery'. This new album, a collection of side project pieces from Opion Somnium, arrives in a more acoustically made way, and with the addition of an amateur choir, yet still retains it's ambient-slow core essence of 'long minor chords and oscillations like the matter sucking of a black hole'- Grooves Magazine. Having been referred to the likes of, Mum, Godspeed You Black Emperor!/ A silver Mt. Zion, Sigur Ros sans vocals, The Album Leaf, Rachel's, and even The Polyphonic Spree, one can see influences and also a mind set, apart from that of usual 'pop' standards in the sense that the songs are often quite lengthy, and crescendo in and out of multiple movements to form, on a whole, 'some spectacularly long drones'- Neo-Zine.
