All Genres > Rock > Instrumental Rock > INSECT SURFERS: Satellite Beach

This is the second number of the Green Cookie records Special Edition series. We made a start that blow a lot of minds (THE ULTRA 5 - DENIZENS OF DEMENTIA CD) and here is something that will end you up. We heard the Insect Surfers many times in the past and for sure are one of our favorite's bands. Insect Surfers is the planet earth's longest running modern surf instrumental band. The quality of the Insect Surfers is well-known. This quality and their knowledge in instrumental music open up new horizons in this kind of music and they inspired us again and again. They have the passion of music and even better the passion of instrumental music. They keep playing this music that all of us love for 3 decades now. After a lot of records, cds, co-operations, gigs with great names in music business, many distinctions and some complimentary reviews, we believe that know is the time to have this "best of". After all this release was one of our main dream and priority when we start this label 4 years ago. So here are the Insect Surfers sounds directly from their Satellite Beach.

BIO

INSECT SURFERS were originally formed in the summer of '79 in Washington, D.C. Touring the U.S. extensively, they also released several independent lp's and singles that placed as high as #25 on the national college radio charts. Founding member David Arnson regrouped the band after moving to Los Angeles in 1985 with guitarist/sax player Dan "Dano" Sullivan resulting in the most dynamic lineup to date. Debuting at KXLU's "Surf Day" in June 1986, INSECT SURFERS have gone on to be featured on bills with such artists as Chris Isaak, B-52's, Jonathan Richman, Pylon, The Ventures, Dick Dale, Surfaris, etc. Even before June 1986, the INSECT SURFERS managed to play on the same stages as Iggy Pop, The Stranglers, Psychedelic Furs, Joan Jett, Echo&the Bunnymen, Revillos, etc. Far from being a nostalgia act, INSECT SURFERS play guitar-fueled instrumental rock for tomorrow - today! The 50's and 60's stylings of such artists as Link Wray and Dick Dale are filtered through psychedelia, punk rock and soundtrack themes to produce a unique, invigorating and danceable blend. "Jetstream propulsion, dual lead twang", "The Clash meets the Ventures","PsychedelicRangers", "Traditional yet progressive", are all taken from reviewers' descriptions.INSECT SURFERS have drawn at clubs all over California and the Southwest as well as putting together their own local surf festivals in Los Angeles. So...Submerge, hang twelve, and immerse yourself in the surfadelic sounds of the INSECT SURFERS.

Manage to infuse '60s rock with an '80s sensibility. Delightfully cacaphonous, complete with clashing guitar and stomping bass lines ... imaginative electronic extrapolations. The band continuse to grow by absorbing other novel elements and influences.

"... David Arnson and sons provide an amazing late 70's platformed desert wave vision of space and sea. Very good writing and playing L.A. band with a solid following .... Wonderful interplay between the lead and the rhythm, very melodic and plenty of live energy".
