Throat are from Larne, which is a small town outside Belfast, Ireland. There
are two good things about the town and both of them are the Ferry Boats, which
depart every few hours for the mainland UK.

In a culture of boredom and borderline alcoholism four school buddies congregated
to form the ultimate band of rock and roll motherfuckers. This didn't quite
work out as planned so instead they formed Throat. Drawing influence form post
hardcore American bands like Helmet, Quicksand and The Jesus Lizard whilst paying
respectful homage to AC/DC and Led Zepplin these four intrepid adventurers started
playing out and soon after attracted some serious attention from the industry.

It wasn't to long before they were offered a deal, and finally signed with the
newly founded Riverman Records (a joint venture between Placebo / Brian Ferry
management Riverman, Sanctuary and Ministry of Sound) in late 2001. After blowing
their entire advance on a wardrobe consisting of matching Evil Knievel outfits
(no shit) the band released their debut record "Knievel is Evil" (presumably
to justify their purchases) to critical acclaim. The record also featured guest
appearances from Neil Fallon of Clutch and Andy Cairns from Therapy?

Kerrang, Metal Hammer and Rock Sound all raved about the record whilst radio
also picked up on singles. First single "Soho" was playlisted on XFM and even
reached number 2 on the Lamacq Evening Session Buzz Chart on Radio 1 (which
is voted for by the public). The band were awarded live sessions from RTE's
Dave Fanning show, The Radio One session in Northern Ireland and Total Rock
Radio in London. TV also picked up on their Crazy Horses video getting extensive
plays on MTV2 and Kerrang TV.

However it was in the live arena that Throat really came into their own. Kerrang!
editor Ashley Bird described the live experience as "little short of breathtaking
- incorporating the chiselled heaviness of the likes of Quicksand and Helmet
whilst retaining a certain Britrock power" The band embarked on a heavy touring
schedule that saw them perform alongside acts as diverse as Clutch, Therapy?
Rival Schools, At The Drive In Hundred Reasons, JJ72, Hell is for Heroes and
even Van Morrison as well as main stage appearances at festivals such as Witness
and The Bulldog Bash. The band also headlined sponsored tours for Total Rock
Radio, Metal Hammer magazine and Jagermesiter.

However the band almost became as famous for their after show performances as
their on stage. Highlights include the band going online on their tour manager
s pc whilst drunk on the bus one night and buying a full functional Trans Am
car (Knight Rider Replica) on ebay. Vocalist Willy and bass player Russ also
managed to drive a car into the Atlantic Ocean and have it declared lost at
sea. They did manage to beat the theft charge in court though!!!!

Throat are currently recording demos for their new record and are looking for
a new home.
