Downcaste is a South Jersey-based rock band formed in 1995 by brothers Rich and Ted Allen, and drummer Joe Vallee.

After several years of playing the local Jersey and Philly scenes (including an opening slot for King Norris of Howard Stern fame), Downcaste released their first full-length CD in December of 2001.

Downcaste has a variety of influences ranging from The Beatles, to Nirvana, to Led Zeppelin. The strength's of the band are the lyrical prowess of Rich (the eldest of the Allen brothers), and the strong nucleus of lead guitarist Ted and drummer Vallee.

The band does have their idiosyncracies. Rich doesn't eat for days prior to a Downcaste show, and Vallee has only recently started to play drums wearing shoes.

The year of 2005 should be an exciting one for Downcaste. They hope that you come along for the ride.
