The whole album is set like a diary. It has heartache, true love, drug addiction, murder, god, power, fear.

This is the 4th album from Deacon. The others are Can You Hear Me (1999), The Ego and The Patience (double disc) (2000), Fried to Funk(2000), and the new album entitled, "The Chilled Insane"(2003) along with the new Dumb Angel album, "lo-fi american dream/punk rock for breakfast"(2003). The talk of a national release is in the air and Deacon is quickly being recognized as one of the most talented bands around. Now, lets go through the album like a tourist inside Deacon's heartache phase.

Just Like My Lady - this song is a powerful plead with an obvious influence of the black crowes. A very strong opening to an unusual straight forward album from Deacon.
A great guitar song.

Frayed Soul - this song is probably the most emotional song on the whole album.
Quite of a sacrifice of privacy for Deacon. Speaking of love lost and the true feelings of a heartbroken man.
This song is full of lush harmonies and instrumentation that shows a growing talent of production from Deacon. Also has a very creepy backwards solo by Peter Reis.

Ballad of Jealous James - this is a very controversial favorite on the album.
It's about a very jealous man warning his ex-lover of his cruel intentions of killing her new lover.
This rock song is very well put together with a chilling cry of a solo. A wolf among the sheep.

Queen Melody - a very good feeling rock song about new love or lust.
A really catchy song with an exploding Hendrix solo. Short and sweet.

She - This is a song that shows Deacon's harmonies with elegance. A very psychedelic song with cunning rhythm once it opens up. It's about new love and the question of being able to trust a new love with your heart and soul. A question everyone asks themselves if they have had any previous experience with love or heartache.

Sunshine Rover - full of pleasing sounds from, acoustic and electric guitars, piano, congas, etc.
This song starts off with a catchy piano driven opening. Then, the chorus hits you hard with the sounds of Pearl Jam. A very up and down song that is a favorite among listeners. It is about missing home. The sights, smells, and memories. A Sunshine Rover could be someone or something that leads you or takes you back to your home. A very good opener for the second half of the album.

Hard Luck This Time - This has a great story with excellent songwriting from Ryan Winkle and Jeff Smothers (dumb angel). It's about a love affair and money in a Vegas scene.
Simplified - Girl finds boy. Boy falls for girl. Girl takes boy's money. Boy drinks. Boy gambles. Girl comes back. Girl has no money. Girl needs sympathy and most of all, more money.

Stories and Lies - another great and catchy song by Winkle and Smothers(dumb angel). About a groupie I suppose.
This is a very raw sounding song with great rock and roll attitude.

Since Then - This song is masterful. It sounds like a mixture between 311, Radiohead, Stone Temple Pilots and a dash of Guns and Roses. Believe it or not , it blends with beauty and vigor.
It's about a very confused man trying to say he is just fine when really, he is very hurt and unstable.
An excellent song that provides melody and softness with power and confusion of the soul.

Again - The heaviest song on the whole album. One that will keep the hard rockers in it for the long run.
About never running from fear. To confront it and dive head first.

Hallucinating While I'm Dating You - a very, very catchy song. Sounds like the Foo Fighters and weezer with a melody of Brian Wilson (the beach boys). This is one you will play over and over again. A very short and sweet song from Winkle and Smothers(dumb angel). This is about a booty call while tripping on acid.
Fiction. Or is it?

Weiland - The last song of the album is a melody driven dream. It is about a heroin addict trying to decide between his drug and his girl. Quite of a graceful ending to the album. Also a dumb angel song before Winkle and Smothers decided to name themselves.
