This is the debut CD from alternative rock act F. The band exploded onto the Los Angeles music scene in April 2002. By their third gig, F was already headlining venues like Bar Sinister on L.A.'s decadent underground club scene.

The sound of this CD is often described as somewhere between the Cure, New Order, and the Psychedelic Furs.

Several tracks from this CD ("Johnny Depp", "Christine At Tower Sunset", and F's cover of Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart") were enthusiastically played by legendary KROQ deejay Rodney Bingenheimer, who simply described the tunes as "Amazing...".

In 2005, film director Penelope Spheeris (who did "Wayne's World" and "The Decline of Western Civilization") included what is probably this album's finest song "It's A Dying Thing" in her new film "The Kid & I".

In 2004, F and some friends started a new band, the Distortions. Their brand new CD "Exploding Teenage Body Part", which is probably best described as post-punk/shoegazer, is now available on CD Baby.

From CDBaby.com:

Earth to fans of the Cure, Interpol, Radiohead, and Modern English or anything even close to Brit pop, past and present. With a sound that is both retrogressively expansive to the 80's but consciously aware in modern, musical innovation, "F" is delivering their second dream-catching album to gold-panning, treasure hunters of CD Baby gems. With the reverberating, sonic padding of lush, swirling layers and echoing harmonies yet clear, softly-carved melodies and themes, this band stands to gain only more attention and admiration.

From www.Demorama.com by Vanessa Moore:

Smoke from clove cigarettes swirl through the shafts of light creeping around the edges of black curtains pulled tight against the light outside. I see this in my mind's eye when I listen to the two songs available on MP3.com by the band F. I feel like I'm at a Cure concert before they got big. If I heard these four men from Los Angeles at the right age, it would have led me down a different life path. Like the Cure, lead singer F sings stories that could act as primers for the poetic lifestyle of the emotionally anguished. In "Skank," the words go, "picking scabs and making scars, the damage casts our shadows far." Sounds beautiful, doesn't it?...

From www.ink9.com by Daniel Mitchell:

F... play 1980s-style gloomy power pop, which could be likened to New Order and, dare I say it, The Cure... The entire album harkens back to the 1980s, and not the overplayed synth side of things, but the cool music, which used to be called "progressive" (that was the term that was used for weird people and weird music before "alternative" was used, for you younger readers out there). Songs like "Uber Dub" made me a true believer in F. On this track, the lead singer sounds like Bono, the drums are fast and up beat, sounding very much like New Order drums (the fast double high hat work in full force). This song totally rocks... Fans of The Cure only get a new record every three or four years, so we've got to find things to enjoy while we wait. As one fan to another, I would like to suggest F as something that fans will enjoy... really! Fans of early U2, and early New Order will enjoy this, as well.

From NoHoLa Magazine by Scott Dudleson (April, 2002):

In front of a crowd of over 200, LA hipsters "F" recently took the stage for their highly anticipated debut performance at Hollywoods Swing House Studios. After eight months of rehearsing and recording, the quartet took the stage and energetically ripped through several cuts from their self titled debut record. Sonically influenced by British favorites, New Order and The Cure, F creates a retro pop sound that has, in recent years, been wrongfully ignored within the confines of modern rock. Instead of hindering their prospects, this fact places the quartet in a unique position to fill a heavily needed void within the LA music scene, and more broadly, within the stagnant modern rock genre. Led by their charismatic front man "F," whom exudes all the pain and brooding that typifies retro pop, the quartet crafts dense soundscapes around melodic hooks. The bands rhythm section, which is spearheaded by Jon Mattox and Steve Luxenberg, create an aggressive unit, that prevent the gloomy songs from dragging by breathing energy into the moody keyboard loops and guitar fills. Chief songwriter F, creates four minute pop gems that have enough energy to keep your head bobbing and enough sharp hooks to keep you humming. The bands remarkable talent for keeping their lyrics playful, while never abandoning the gloom, is a distinctive factor which separates F from, say Orgy, and others in the current crop of retro poppers.
