Poptown Records has preserved Halloween for us all on their newest compilation release THE MORGUE THE MERRIER so you can be frightened all year 'round!

This creepy collection has 15 original tracks from Richie Scarlet (with Dennis Dunaway & Neal Smith from the original Alice Cooper Group), Psycho Charger, The Dead Elvi, The Scared Stiffs, Calabrese, Bombshell, Stark, Spooky Pane and the Migraines, Push 13, The Blame, Tripwave, The Subway Surfers, Bottle of Smoke, Steel Rodeo and Ugly Friend.

Not all the music is monster themed, but there's enough there to scare the fangs off of any vampire. The disc opens with "Midnight Spookshow" by Calabrese and Push 13 closes the disc reminding you that there's "Always Room In Hell". In between is an assortment of horror rock, rock-a-billy, psycho-billy, psychedelic and straight out street punk!

Several of these bands, including The Scared Stiffs and the Subway Surfers, will be performing at Poptown's Record Release party for THE MORGUE THE MERRIER happening on Saturday November 19 at the Delancey (www.theDelancey.com). Open to the public, Poptown promises lots of other special guests, drink specials and great giveaways. Also be sure to catch The Scared Stiffs on Spike TV this Halloween weekend co-hosting a monster movie marathon with the Captain Morgan Rum Pirate and a squad of scantily clad Go-Go Ghouls!

Equally as entertaining as the music on this CD is the scary packaging that includes original artwork by John Clark. In the days of vinyl, before we were able to download music samples, every once in a while you would risk buying a record based on the cool cover. This is one of those albums!

THE MORGUE THE MERRIER is now available on line at www.PoptownRecords.com where you can sample songs from the album and learn more about all the contributing bands!

Here's what the critics say...

"Ya know, I've been sweating it out and worried if Halloween was gonna come and go without a cool, spooky compilation. The wait is over!! Poptown Records has just released a compilation to fulfill my sick needs, The Morgue The Merrier. I wouldn't normally expect Poptown to put out something like this but I am not complaining; I'm happier than a pig in shit! ...Now, this is what I'm talkin' 'bout; good ole spooky, Rockabilly with a slick rhythm section. In a strange way it reminds me of Roky Erickson, which is a plus. The house band of Hell's trailer park, Psychocharger, also make their presence felt... Nobody does Industrial styled Rockabilly like this and I mean nobody, Psychocharger RULE! ...Richie Scarlet, along with Dennis Dunaway and Neal Smith (Original Alice Cooper Band), contribute "The Ghost Of Brian Jones". I'm completely taken by this tune, everything about it is wonderful. To begin with, the music is reminiscent of 70's Super Rock - except it's far better. The vocals come off like a hybrid mix of Paul Stanley and Phil Lynott, can't beat that at all! ...I am very glad to see that my favorite NYC dead boys, The Scared Stiffs, are on the comp....a great band that needs more notoriety. ...Steel Rodeo is straight up Country Rock and it fucking rules! Catchy hooks and hot Country guitar licks. The vocals are also bad-ass, I'm definitely going to get into their discography. There is also a tune entitled "Slut" by Stark...the music is great as are the lyrics, ...There are plenty more songs on this compilation that'll light your Halloween party on fire! I know I'm gonna be blasting them at my own shindig, you do the same. While you're at it, check out a few more of Poptown's releases, these guys have a good ear for cool bands, I'm sure you'll find something extravagant"

"Ireally gotta hand it to them goons at Poptown Records... THE MORGUE THE MERRIER is their greatest achievement ... the compilation obviously panders to the horror crowd ... What makes TMTM different from many in my teetering collection is that the bands here are GOOD. I mean, they're ALL good. Yeah, sure, some beat out others, but for the most part there ain't a clinker in the 15. Site darlings Calabrese start things off with the sickening thud of "Midnight Spookshow", followed by The Dead Elvi and Psycho Charger's extremely (and painfully) entertaining "Invasion Of The Ball Snatchers". TMTM's crown jewel is revealed on it's fourth track - "The Ghost Of Brian Jones" - performed by Ace Frehley cohort Richie Scarlet. Scarlet's downright spooky ode to the long-gone Rolling Stones guitarist is enhanced to epic eeriness by the clever insertion of Jones riffs and the top-notch guest performances from ex-Alice Cooper bassist Dennis Dunaway and drummer Neal Smith. Other joyous nibblets occur by way of Bombshell's "Whatever Happened To NYC", keisterkicker "So Lonely" by Spooky Pane And The Migraines, the smokey sting and beer stink of Steel Rodeo's "Carol Ann" with noteworthy nods also going out to The Subway Surfers, Stark and The Blame. Most indubitably something you should own!"
