The Necessary Evil EP captures the first 2 years of our existence. The name "Necessary Evil" is fitting given that the songs that made the cut for that early release were six tracks culled from 15-20 that the band was working on at the time. We have been writing constantly and evolving quickly - these six tracks best represent the stylistic changes we have been undergoing as a band. Now that we've had more time to refine our sound on the road and in the studio, we plan to re-cut a few of the tracks from this EP, and they will appear on our full-length release, due to be released on September 16, 2005.

To give some insight on this EP, I'll highlight one track as an example, "More Than A Girl." This song represents the first time that Adam Evil & The Outside Royalty has ventured into sonic territory that is uniquely ours. We had been working on a lot of different material with varied degrees of success, and suddenly this track came together very quickly. When it did, I think we all realized that we had come up with something a little different than what had to work with before. In addition, we received affirmation when this song was played on the radio station SWR3 in Germany on a program called DASDING and made it to #4 in their listener's choice countdown.

The concept behind "More Than A Girl" is very simple: fame, and how I assume it contributes to vanity. The lyrics touch on the way individuals tend to deify others to the point of absurdity, leading to an endless cycle
of inflated egos and ridiculous expectations. Musically, the goal was to write something that bombarded the listener with complex textures in rapid succession while still delivering a clear overall vibe. It was the first
time we were able to integrate the full spectrum of our instrumentation and emerge with something that really made sense to all of us.

Enjoy.
