Peace by Piece is a Brooklyn band, featuring singer-songwriter Derek Bermel on keyboards and caxixi, Bobby Roe on bass and Mat Deveau on drums. The band has performed to capacity crowds at many of the top clubs in New York, including Joe's Pub, the BAMcafé, the Izzy Bar, Southpaw, and the Cutting Room. Peace by Piece has released two albums on Miscellaneous Records (www.miscrecords.com), their first, self-titled album 'Peace by Piece', and most recently, 'The Elements' in May 2004. Both albums are available on cdbaby.com. From a recent review in Audio Asylum: Peace by Piece?...The band was great...and the level of musicianship was really impressive. The lead singer/keyboard player/caxixi player, Derek Bermel writes all of the music and is actually quite a succesful classical composer...So I guess it shouldn't be too surprising that the music is more interesting in terms of melodies and rhythms than one typically would find....I saw them at the Cutting Room in Manhattan and bought [their CD] at the show; it is great too, though too short!
