Referred to as the hip electro-groove ensemble, this six piece groove and funk band comes from the beat city of Lowell, MA. Their catchy horn lines, powerful rhythm section, and heavy dance grooves can finally be heard on this, their debut album. THE BAND KWEEJEEBO is a 6 piece groove/funk band originating from the roots of Lowell,MA. They comprise of guitar,drums,bass, keys,trumpet, saxophone, and vocals and have been performing forover three years all over New England from Boston to Providence to Sugarloaf Maine. They have all studied music professionally under either Russ Lawton (member of the Trey Anastacio band), music great Charlie Banacos, or through the University of Massachusetts from which they have their music degrees. They have had numerous press releases and feature articles as well from publications such as The Boston Globe, The Lowell Sun, and 168 Magazine. KWEEJEEBO has opened for acts such as Macio Parker, Soulive's Sam Kininger,Superhoney, Bomb Squad and Strangefolk a number of times. THE MUSICIANS Bryan MacAuslan: Trumpet, Lead Vocals Bryan started playing music at the age of nine years old, first on piano then switching later to trumpet. He obtained his Bachelor's degree in Music Business from UMASS Lowell in 2001 and studied trumpet with Joe Foley. While in school he also furthered his interest in photography and art and began work in music production. In this he has worked with many local acts including kweejeebo, Spontaneous Combustion, and Frank Morey. He has recorded with many local artists including D-Tension and former members of the Shods. Bryan played in the Lowell based Mill City Project before becoming the trumpet player and vocalist for kweejeebo. Bryan's writing and musical creativity have resulted in many kweejeebo original tunes and unique horn arrangements. In addition to performing he also handles most of the bands management responsibilities. Rima Jakubauskas: Saxophone Rima began playing the sax in elementary school and continued throughout high school and onto UMASS Lowell where she studied with jazz saxophonist Marc Phaneuf. She received her degree in Music Education and played in many of the school's top jazz ensembles. Rima's fiery alto sax solos and unique sound contribute to the high energy of kweejeebo's live shows. Her musical outlook has helped to define kweejeebo's tight horn sound and musical growth. Kevin Farias: Guitar Kevin began playing guitar in junior high school and credits Led Zeppelin as an early influence. Growing up in a house surrounded by music (his brothers play guitar, bass, and drums between them) Kevin decided to attend Berklee College of Music where he devoted himself to practicing eight hours a day. After a couple of years Kevin transferred to UMASS Lowell to pursue a degree in Music Business. He cites Greyboy Allstars guitarist Elgin Park as a source of inspiration. Kevin's great rhythmic comping and tasteful lead playing have helped to take kweejeebo to the next level. "Sparky" Warsnip: Bass, Backing Vocals Sparky first began playing bass at the age of 14. He attended UMASS Lowell where he studied with Boston Pops bassist Mark Henry. He has played in the local bands Spaceship Aristotle and the Mill City Project and often can be seen sitting in with numerous other local musicians. Sparky's tasteful bass lines focus on groove and reflect his focus on keeping the funk. Sparky cites players such as Chris Wood, Phil Lesh and Flea as influences. He also writes including the bass lines for kweejeebo's original material. John Normandin: Drums John started his drumming career as a UMASS Lowell freshman. He was self taught and only recently began studying with Russ Lawton of Trey Anastasio fame. John credits Russ with helping him concentrate on the drums soul purpose, THE GROOVE! Aside from kweejeebo , John has help the groove in local acts such as Magic Rice, Energon, The Mill City Project, Tight Rope and The Sleeve City Provokers. When not playing the drums you can find him reading a book or writing one. He hopes to have a collecton of short essays published within the year.
