Kendell Romanelli Kendell Romanelli grew up singing in musical theatre. She even earned a Bachelor's and Master's dergree in Music Theatre and Theatre Performance from Baldwin-Wallace College and the University of Cincinnati's College Consevatory of Music. But when her teachers, collegues and friends encouraged her to pursue a career in jazz, Kendell listened. While living in Los Angeles, Kendell studied vocal jazz with singer Cathy Siegal Garcia. She had the oppurtunity to sit in with several Los Angeles jazz musicians including actor Jeff Goldblum. Although Kendell loved Los Angeles she decided to move home to Pittsburgh to refocus her direction as a singer and musician. In June 2002, Kendell met Rick Romanelli at Pittsburgh’s famous James Street Tavern. They had an instant chemistry. Rick was the lead guitarist for a local blues band, Smokin’ Section, and had studied with jazz guitarist Joe Negri. They originally partnered to form a jazz trio but soon discovered their compatibility as both song writing partners and as husband and wife. Kendell and Rick were married in August of 2003. Their greatest production to date is Kendell’s debut album “Sip It Slowâ€. Although Kendell and Rick have a strong background in jazz and blues, this album is more strongly influenced by the rock and pop music the duo grew up listening to on the radio. The eight originals written for “Sip It Slow†are truly a labor of love. From the light hearted narrative opening track “Sometimes You Gotta Run†to the introspective “Licorice†to the passionately imaginative final track “I Am†each tune speaks to the listener with inner truth and beauty. In addition to the eight originals Kendell and Rick included their interpretations of two classic jazz standards. Billie Holiday’s “God Bless the Child†is warm and sensitive while Gershwin’s “Summertime†is hot and sensuous. Each musician gave their unique talent, taking each tune to a higher level. Richard Gartner’s subtle and explosive drum tracks and both Jay Radencic’s and Doug Wells’ bass playing create a tight and energetic rhythm section. While Harry Levicky adds imaginative, colorful lines on the keyboard. “Sip it Slow†is a revved up, electrified version of the powerful acoustic shows performed by Kendell and Rick throughout the city of Pittsburgh Check out the artist's website: http://www.kendellromanelli.com Track List: 1.
