In recent times, a Spanish company known as Polyphonic HMI has developed a program aimed at predicting hits in the music business. The program, Hit Song Science (referred to in the biz as HSS), has been the dirty little secret of labels and A&R reps for an unspecified amount of time. This technology allows the bean counters to assess music on a level previously uncertain: in dollars and cents. But don't tell Kelpie. For the past three years, the Lawrence, KS quartet has been churning out songs with hooks and melodies that would score off the charts with a program like HSS. But unlike other acts, Kelpie refuses to drill the catchy moments in to the listener's heads, instead opting to lure them back with unpredictable song structures and shifting meters. In late 2004, Kelpie holed up in the rural oasis of Great Western Record Recorders to create their second full length recording. With Matt Talbott (formerly of Hum) at the helm, the band was able to make the album the way they had dreamed of: complete isolation, immersion in the studio and no computers. The record, 2005's "Hey Friends It's Kelpie!" raised the bar from their 2003 debut, "One", and further shows the bands creativity and originality with their own brand of progressive pop music. Showing no signs of slowing, the boys of Kelpie continually stays musically active with touring and are in high demand among the rock and roll community. Among many other musical ventures, the rhythm section can be spotted as touring members of the Doghouse records band Koufax. Check out the artist's website: http://www.kelpiemusic.com Track List: 1.
