In chronological order: grew up an Army brat, wharped the ribbon on Van Morrison's "Moondance" cassette, learned John Denver's "Country Roads" on guitar, first gig at the St. Francis of Assisi 1030am mass, joined first band in Omaha playing pretty aweful jam music, introduced to Bela Fleck, independently recorded and released two solo LPs, graduated from Creighton University with a now shelved degree, cooked at Harry's Martini Bar in Kansas City for a summer, moved to Austin, waited tables at a jewish deli with a disgusting and heartless owner, hideously played the first and worst and last cover band gig ever in South Padre Island for 900 drunken heckling lawyers, discovered Nicolai Dunger's "Soul Rush", fooled a previously unimpressed Austin booking agent into some shows by changing name from Andy to Drew but all the time remaining Andrew, recorded the first S/T Drew Smith EP mixed entirely in Rich Stanmyre's apartment, relished in the beauty of having bandmates who read music and don't need to rehearse the freshness out of songs, learned that records are cheaper than Compact Discs, realized that "Only Living Boy in New York" is probably the prettiest song ever written, added horns to the live show for an entirely new musical experience, tricked Matt Russell into being the official musical arranger of the Drew Smith world, decided that Steely Dan's "Can't Buy a Thrill" is a masterpiece, recently recorded "In the rain, In the sand, In the cold...we will love" and put it on credit, currently obsessed with the Kinks.
