While listening, you get the sense that these highly competent musicians love what they do and really enjoy the musical synergy they create together. Obviously fans of music of the 60's and early to mid 70's, the songs here derive their richness and complexity from the arrangement of instruments and voices, but the songwriting largely has an uncomplicated, melodic and assessable quality that much of the music from those eras had. "Over Me" is a great example of this with its decidedly 60's style vibe and highly memorable hook. Also worth noting about this record are the smooth as silk lead vocals by Trish Caruana, lovely back-up harmonies, interesting lyrics and great, in-the-pocket grooves. The wonderful use of violin throughout the record is a great asset to the overall soundscape as well. It creates a haunting and affecting sound on the lovely, melancholy ballads "All Along" and "The Play" and also adds considerable spice to the more uptempo cuts such as the title track "Cover Up Show" and "Into the Night." The guitar and violin never sound as if they are competing with one another, but rather they blend in and almost magical way as the two instruments weave around each other creating yummy ear candy. There is a superb mix a different feels and moods on this CD, making for a record that will have a low "burn out" factor and one that you can listen to time and time again. There's something for practically everybody here (sans the heavy metal fan), as 9bobNOTE seamlessly blends elements of Pop, Jazz,Country, Rock, dashes of Funk/R&B and even some Folk/Blues on the ultra cool "Take It To The Grave" into their sound. 9bobNOTE is an Independent band worthy of your attention."
