FLÄN began in the spring of 1998, with our first show at Club Metronome in Burlington, Vermont. We have played over 30 shows to date, primarily at Club Metronome and at Higher Ground in Winooski. Other concerts include several in Lyndonville, VT, appearances in the 1999 and 2000 Burlington Mardi Gras parades, and a show at Clarkson College in upstate New York. We also opened up for Pork Tornado (Jon Fishman's side project) at Higher Ground and at the Paradise in Boston during April of 1999. We recently released 'Sweet Cream Butter', a 12-song CD of original music, recorded at Archer Studios in Colchester, Vermont. Our music is what we like to call 'Arenarock- from ballads to ball-breakers'. Major influences include such artists as Sublime, Frank Zappa, Grateful Dead, Black Sabbath and Lawrence Welk. FLÄN is a four-man band, consisting of two guitars, bass and drums. Atlas does most of the singing, with backups from both Vice-boy and Junior. Mason and Whitefish do the songwriting, with well over 50 original songs in the repertoire. We also play many classic cover tunes, including songs by Hendrix, Michael Jackson, Pink Floyd, Skynyrd and the Talking Heads. J. Atlas Mason- lead vocals, bass guitar, guitar. Junior Whitefish- rhythm guitar, bass guitar, vocals. Red Oak- drums, skoal, wigs. Vice-boy McFlannel- lead guitar, vocals, vices. REVIEW FROM RELIX MAGAZINE FEB. 2001: "Sweet Cream Butter is the band's debut album. It was actually released about a year ago, but that shouldn't deter listeners- it's a remarkably sophisticated effort. Flan's complex blend of styles should be of interest to a wide range of music fans. A number of the songs feature memorable melodies and proficient instrumental backing, most notable in the title song, the lengthy "Cherry Bomb" and the rocker "Crashing Down"." Track List: 1.
