time ~ 40 minutes

Mike Kokolis, vox
Jamie McMenamy, guitar
Zeke Hubbard, bass

Drums were my first instrument, and maybe even still my favorite (nice to be able to play concentrating just on rhythm). While Jamie and i were working for the game developer i could afford a kit and kept it at Jamie's to play and practice on. He and i had been jamming on and off with Zeke when this happened: Mike rolled in to hang out and we gave him the microphone. Nothing on this disc was rehearsed, and the 4 of us never got together at the same time (with just the 4 of us) again. I remember Christmas lights undulating (Jamie had them strung around the ceiling in the living room) and catching glimpses of Mike rapping out of the corner of my eye, and having such a good time i could barely hold down the beat from laughing. To me this is everything that's good about rock and channelled from the heart by musicians who landed somewhere special together - the recording is live, direct to DAT, ok a couple edits, a little compression. As with a lot of improvised music yeah the texture can seem basic or even juvenile at points, but that's when you listen for the magic stuff to pop out ~ no longer clockwork puppets, everyone's surfing together (there's a breakdown in "Bad Side" where Mike actually chuckles right out loud before grabbing a wave and owning it). This jam represents everything i love about the synergy that can sound between and among players who know their instruments and love to play for fun.
