All Genres > Rock > Emo > NUMBER ONE FAN: Compromises

Number One Fan's most significant musical accomplishment is their exclusive style. While not falling into the molds of today's other bands or genres, the uniqueness of their music sets them apart. This also makes classifying their sound difficult. Number One Fan fits into the incredibly broad category of "rock," but beyond that they're hard to label. Their music is not "emo" and not "indie," but the band has borrowed at least one aspect from each of those genres. Passion is noticeably present in the music, but unlike most "emo" bands, the fervor produced is genuine. Appleton, Wisconsin Post-Crescent reporter Steven Hyden wrote in a recent article, "Number One Fan boasts the right mix of chunky/pretty dynamics and just enough teenage teeth clenching to sound passionate without being pathetic.

Number One Fan has been playing together for nearly three years. Even their first shows on the local Fox Cities scene proved to solidify their spot as one of the area's best bands. The last year has seen their fan base grow exponentially. This is, in part, because their music has matured and the band members have dedicated all of their time and futures to the project, resulting in improved song-writing skills and not only a oneness that is unmatched, but a well balanced performance. While Number One Fan has played all over Wisconsin, recent trips to Colorado, Minnesota and Ohio have given the band touring experience and a semi-national fan base. The band has recorded two demo CDs, featured a track on a Feoh Records compilation (Penn.), and had two songs appear on local Varsity Record's "Starting Line-Up" compilation. In addition, they have just completed recording their debut full-length entitled "Compromises." Their drive to succeed is evident in the hundreds of hours spent recording at Simple Studios in Green Bay with Justin Perkins of Yesterday's Kids (Lookout! Records) and studio owner Eric Thielen. The outcome has been a recording that truly showcases the band's unique sound. If success has anything to do with dedication and passion for music, Number One Fan is well on their way.
