Fairgrove is a rock band that began in Seattle in 1998 when Michael "Halis" Graham first played his guitar with bassist Art Behrman. Their chords struck chemistry, and Art suggested they approach a former band mate of his, drummer Chris Vandebrooke, to form a progressive and melodic project. Chris had been writing music with keyboardist and singer Jay Harrison, and the four of them soon found themselves practicing as Fairgrove, enthralled with the intense musings and interesting expressions each rehearsal revealed. They released a five song e.p. in 2000 entitled "In Defense of the Inexperienced," and after performing around town for a few years, Art left the band for other projects, and was replaced by their friend Tom Falk as bassist. This new line-up recorded "Good Luck" in 2001, and the upcoming release answers a harrowing period in their lives with a collection of gorgeous, broken, comic, perverse, and epic songs which lyricist J. Harrison says, "help us to release some of the stress and beauty we build up in our day to day cycles of work, love, and tragedy." Today the band's objective is to create songs that express it's member's feelings and perceptions, and to thoughtfully and evocatively share the beauty found in loss, tension, loneliness, and love, and the undeniable connection they share. With the further addition of Jim Laws (amply filling the large shoes of Chris V. on drums) in 2002, Fairgrove is turning to future expansions, to uncharted travels and communications, and to the continuing struggle of the sonic. Influences: Fugazi, Sea and Cake, Joy Division, Pixies, Yo La Tengo, Sebadoh, Idaho, and the Spinanes. Check out the artist's website: http://www.montesano.net Track List: 1.
