Akasa started in late 1997 as a coffee house duo in New Brunswick, NJ,, but quickly became an indie rock powerhouse by 1999 by performing at well-known venues such as Maxwell's, The Court Tavern and The Stone Pony.

In 2001, they released their CD, "Open the Sound" (Okazia Records) to local critical acclaim and took NYC by storm by performing at the 2001 CMJ Music Marathon. Since then, their song, "The Messenger" was in the Top 20 Alternative charts on Garageband.com for nearly 1 year outranking close to 20,000 songs in their category. They have also been featured artists on several prominent music websites such as Starpolish.com, CMJ Network's ChangeMusic.com and Kweevak.com.

Over the past few years, their sound has evolved into something unique. Akasa draws upon a wide range of influences. From the straight up pop-rock of bands like Buffalo Tom and The Smithereens, the intense, atmospheric energy of Jeff Buckley to the creative, adventurous spirit of 60's jam band trios like Cream and Jimi Hendrix, Akasa is hard to pidgeonhole. And that's exactly how they like it. They are currently in the process of recording new songs and touring the East Coast.
