UNCLEFTY, formerly The Planet Earth Orchestra, was formed in Montreal, Quebec, during late 1997 by Randy Starr and Rory Hochman. Their dream was, and is, to produce CD's, tour the world, and bring Rock and Roll back to the top of the music industry. Combining prophetic & poetic lyrics, melodic & methodical musical arrangements, and fragments from their musical heroes, their ambitious goal is well within the realm of probability.

The musical influence of a band is vital to its sound. Inspired by some of the greatest musicians of all time, Starr and Hochman have built up a substantial repertoire of original compositions and classic cover tunes. The inspirations of the two musicians encompass a very broad spectrum of artists. Everything from The Beatles, Bob Dylan, and CSN, to The Talking Heads, Phish, and The Tragically Hip have played significant roles in the molding of UNCLEFTY's sound - And it is a direct result of these classic influences that UNCLEFTY has developed a loyal following among the university and post-university aged crowds.

UNCLEFTY didn't fully manifest itself until Starr and Hochman returned home from school in May of 2000. It was at this time that Jeff Berg, a seasoned veteran of the drums, lifelong friend, and former high school band mate of Starr, joined the newly named band to record their first EP entitled 'Man of Distinction'. Starrs' brother David also joined the band in the studio to play bass guitar. The CD was recorded by Brian Moncarz of Whirlwind Sound and went off without a hitch in six days. After releasing their debut CD at The Indian Motorcycle Café, UNCLEFTY played numerous gigs around Toronto at such venues as Holy Joe's, The Reverb Room, Lee's Palace, Clinton's, The 360 Club, and The Horseshoe Tavern. In addition to those band gigs, Hochman and Starr landed summer jobs in North Carolina teaching music. After trying several bass players during the months following the EP's release, a young talent by the name of Rudy B, accomplished bass player and student from York University, joined the trio to make them a quartet once again.

In January of 2002, UNCLEFTY finished recording their first full length LP entitled 'Found a Job'. The release features legendary blues guitarist Jeff Healey on track two, 'Cynical Complications'. The band met the legend while performing at a charity event hosted at his Toronto based Jazz/Blues bar, Healey's. The event was aimed at raising money for Jesse Farquharson, a young baby diagnosed with retinal glaucoma. UNCLEFTY impressed the legend enough that he offered to host their CD release party on January 8th at his bar. The night was a huge success for UNCLEFTY, as they not only sold over one hundred copies of their new CD, but also recruited some new fans.

UNCLEFTY's sound is a splice of catchy melodies, melodic rhythms, and poetic lyrics, all of which are sure to captivate any rock lover's ear. It's only a matter of time until UNCLEFTY joins the ranks of their idols. They have the will and determination; they just need to be heard.
