Reviews: STENCIL FOREST-OPENING ACT (USA) (Realtime Records 1983) ...I had never heard of this band and bought it purely on speculation. What we have here is a mix of Kansas, Styx and some influences of Starcastle. ...every song is a winner. This band had it all. Great song quality, lots of keys and the right amount of guitar. Take a listen to the Styx-like titlesong and the more progressive tracks "The Pandemonium Shadow Show" (with lots of Kansas influences) and "Five Studded Poker Player" (great keyboard outro) and you'll know what I mean. Styx, Hobbit, and Kansas hybrid that will cause you to feverishly add another name to the never ending list of albums you need, and feel that you can't live without. Added bonus is that the production, for an indie label, is very good. Pomp lovers check out the track below and be prepared to be blown (if you like) ... away! CLASSIC! These guys should be tracked down at the earliest opportunity... and re-issued! Labels take note. A little birdie tells me that it will be re-issued late in 2004.
