All Genres > Rock > Classic Rock > HARLAN CAGE: Temple of Tears

HARLAN CAGE released their fourth album in the year 2002. TEMPLE OF TEARS contained all the same elements as their previous three CDs with superb songwriting by Larry Greene and Roger Scott Craig. Featuring the usual excellent vocals from Larry Greene (Top Gun), pompous keyboard orchestrations and soaring guitar solos and the usual high quality mixes from Producer Roger Scott Craig. Many Rock Polls confirmed the status of this CD in 2002, like Rock Report in Europe:

1. Mecca - Mecca
2. Soto, Jeff Scott - Prism
3. Harem Scarem - Weight Of The World
4. Hardline - II
5. Harlan Cage - Temple Of Tears

COMMENTARY:

In 2002 there were about two or three generations of fans of rock music who couldn't find any records to buy anymore. In the 70s and the 80s they wallowed in Deep Purple, Thin Lizzy, UFO, Bon Jovi, Journey, Styx, Toto, Boston, Foreigner and many more melodic rock acts. Many of these fans bought as much as one record or more a week. The same people complain today about no music being made for them.

Well, bands like Harlan Cage continued the tradition of providing quality rock at a time when the major record labels had started their gradual 'self destruction' by promoting pretty dancers and instantly forgettable junk, bland 'corporate music' soon to be forgotten by the general public.

REVIEW:

HARLAN CAGE “Temple Of Tears”

LA based band who established themselves as one of the leading bands within the AOR-FM Melodic hardrock genre, with their big, bright and classic sound along the lines of Survivor, Journey and Foreigner. Their albums always receive critical acclaim in the European and Japanese rock magazines. This is the bands 4th studio album. Everybody’s who is into classic AOR music just can’t resist the class of Harlan Cage.

Magnus Söderqvist: "Harlan Cage - in my opinion one of the absolute best acts around today in the classic AOR /melodic rock genre. A magnificent combination of pompus keyboards, soaring melodies and genuine songwriting. "Temple of Tears" once again shows how the band can deliver, and even if you can hear a lot of influences and reference points in the music - the band surely has its own identity in what they create."

We had to wait almost three years before a follow-up of "Forbidden Colors" arrived in the shops. Personally I couldn't wait for the European release and so I bought myself the Japanese release with no bonus
tracks, but with a different cover. During the last few years this band really became special to me, because they were able to take me back to those glorious moments of the 80s. If you are curious if this band is still capable of doing so, I can only confirm. "Temple Of Tears" is just one hell of an album, full of genius arranged and performed AOR/pomp rock tunes, that blow you away.
From the very first opening chords of "Any Port Of The Sun", you hear those gorgeous keyboards parts, very recognisable vocals and great guitar licks, which made this band so unbelievable good. It goes on with "Wooden Cross", which has a heavenly melody and the mid-tempo killer AOR track "Just A Face In The Rain". "One New York Morning" reflects that terrible and horrifying day of September 11 and "On The Nickel" has an almost Dire Straits kind of guitar intro, but later changes into a groovy kind of melodic rock song. It continues and never stops until the last notes of "We Belong" are played.
As done on all the band’s previous albums, Roger Scott Craig & L.A. Greene re-recorded another track of the “Fortune” debut and this time they picked out "Deep In The Heart Of The Night", which fits in perfectly. Don't wait much longer and make this album one of best albums of 2002. Awesome!

It's funny how music careers go for some bands...well you see Bon Jovi for example have released 9 studio albums and apart from the first 5 the rest imho are complete crap! And then here you have Harlan Cage with only 4 albums on their back and what you get is 4 classics!...still bon jovi sells more albums than Harlan Cage...isnt that weird!!!!!!.

Some bands may release the biggest shit and they sell (stupid people!) and some others, far more talented and with class releases, like this brilliant band, don't sell ! Who's to blame ? ! First the press (magazines, TV, radio etc.). They don't give bands like Harlan Cage a fair chance ! And if the record buying people don't know a band, they won't buy. Secondly, the record companies! They make or break a band. Give Harlan Cage the same support and money and they are a big act, like many others ! The world is not fair ! But Harlan Cage deserves to be MEGA !

Amazing album! I can tell with pride that I have heard all the albums of HARLAN CAGE. They are magnificent, but this album is the most magnificent and majestic. The excellent music filled with sincere feelings, simple and clear words, form a musical portrait of this album. At listening an album there is a set of feelings, from delight and pleasure up to long also griefs. And the most supreme award for the musician, it that feeling which they have wanted to transfer through MUSIC and words - have reached

Incredible! Melodic rock from one of the best AOR bands of today... the opener 'Any Port In The Storm' and the melanconic 'One New York Morning' are simply extraordinary, don't miss them!!!

What can I say, all theHarlan Cage albums are wonderful and a top act!!! This is my 3rd fav Harlan Cage behind Forbidden Colors and Double Medication Tuesday.
Any Port in a Storm, Face in the rain, Later, and Deep in the heart stand among the band's best stuff. One New York Morning is haunting and a masterpiece. Hope we keep seeing releases from this great band!!!
