Begun as a solo singer-songwriter in 1996, Waxing Phil has evolved into a loosely knit band of genre-bending musicians from the fertile musical roots of the Midwestern United States. Drawing from classic rock influences and the singer-songwriters of the 60's and 70's, Waxing Phil shares its unique musical perspective through songs that range from garage rock to waltzes to ballads to folk songs. Freely combining pop hooks, jam band ethics and strong original songwriting, Waxing Phil is accessible, yet creates a depth missing from much of today's popular music. Experienced on stage and in the studio, the band continues to hone its craft and win over legions of new fans each time it plays. The band revels in playing its original tunes and makes beloved covers their own. With strong hooks in every song they play it is hard to tell a new song from a cover. Waxing Phil's full length studio debut - Sensational Bad News (2004) is a collection of characters and stories set to impossible to ignore melodies and rhythms. The songs and the album have drawn favorable comparisons to classics like Steely Dan, The Who, David Bowie, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Cat Stevens, yet they create their own contemporary sound. Waxing Phil is currently in the studio recording their second release for Lola Records, tentatively titled "Refined" with a scheduled release date of March 2006.
