In 2002, Badman Recording Co. celebrates its fifth year anniversary. In those five years, many things have come to pass, naturally. Some good, such as working with truly remarkable, iconic artists like Mark Kozelek, Hayden, and Rebecca Gates, to name a few. And some not so good (for example, having survived not one, but two distributors going bankrupt). But most importantly, though, it means five years of releasing honest, intelligent, moving music as an antidote to today's hyper-commercialized musical landscape. With a focus on songwriting that, above all, moves the listener as opposed to just moving units, Badman's Bedtime Maladies is a special, low-priced CD sampler of some of the musical highlights of Badman's talented artist roster. It includes previously released songs by My Morning Jacket, Rebecca Gates, Paula Frazer and Mark Eitzel. It also features selections from upcoming albums and new artists - Hayden's upcoming double-CD live album, James William Hindle's second full-length, an iconoclastic new folk-tronica duo called ill lit, and many others. Priced low, this sampler's a steal and the perfect companion for those late-nights when you just can't fall asleep... Some of the Featured Artists: My Morning Jacket "My Morning Jacket provides the perfect salve for the melancholia of the soul" - CMJ New Music Monthly Hayden "His ragged, harrowing concoction of acoustic gentility and electric anarchy stands as a genre all its own" - The Onion Rebecca Gates (of the Spinanes) "A confident and often breath-taking solo debut" - Billboard.com ill lit "ill lit gives us songs that are elegies of American lostness, road music for a new breed of pioneers" - Sound Collector Lanterna "...a mixed bag of styles, mostly spare, spicy, spacey, quiet, ambient Talk Talk, Pink Floyd moods, but also haunted, saddened spaghetti western and dreampoppy, delay-vistas that clutch one's heart strings"- Big Takeover Paula Frazer and Mark Eitzel "Most impressive is Tarnation's Paula Frazer, who joins former American Music Club leader Mark Eitzel to deliver the gorgeous Scott Walker ballad "Rhymes of Goodbye" - Amazon.com James William Hindle - "Through it all shines an undeniable pop sensibility, a wistful lyricism and an assurance that these songs will endure" - Comes with a Smile Reviews All Music Guide 4 stars (out of 5) Badman Recording Company celebrated its fifth anniversary in 2002 with this stunningly relaxed and dramatic ten-song collection. Opening with the graceful folk of James William Hindle's "Slumberland," the pace picks up slightly with the shrewd and graceful synth pop of "Diner Girls" by ill lit. My Morning Jacket follows with the breezy and orchestral "Can You See the Hard Helmet on My Head?" from their Chocolate and Ice EP. Ex-Posies singer Ken Stringfellow is next with the power pop poignancy of "Down on My Knees" and Lanterna is featured on "Westside Highway" from its stellar Sands album. A live track by Hayden, the piano-fueled "Bass Song" from his Live at Convocation Hall album, gives way to Eric Shea & the High Deserters' simple and passionate "Reason & Rhyme." Misc is up next with its seductive and hypnotic "Korea," which is followed by ex-Spinanes singer Rebecca Gates and the elegantly inventive "Doos" from her Ruby Series EP. The disc closes with Tarnation vocalist Paula Frazer's tempered and graceful collaboration with Mark Eitzel on their cover of Scott Walker's "Rhymes of Goodbye." Badman released the budget-priced sampler in October 2002. - Stephen Cramer All Music Guide Check out the artist's website: http://www.badmanrecordingco.com Track List: 1.
