Recent Reviews: This band is one of the most creative acts I've come in contact with so far! The Hyperions (Jason Plance, Annette Valdes, and Javier Estrella), hailing from California, are a band with countless angles of influence. With a unique mixture of rockabilly, a touch of Mexican, and a dash of classic rock and roll, this band has created a very original sound! Again, I can honestly say I've never heard anything like the Hyperions before. You can hear the obvious fifties roots joined with horns, strings, and a marimba, tossed together with some Cramps-like inspiration. The first cut on the album, "Women, Wine and Song," is more of a straight-up rockabilly tune, but as the record progresses, the band seduces you and keep you wondering what they're going to do next. For instance, their cover of "Paint it Black" (Stones) adds a xylophone (I think) - nonetheless, it's quite an amazing version! This band knows how to rock! 4.0 Eyes Matt Alexander The Glass Eye If you've ever wondered what hyper rockabilly might sound like with horns, strings and marimba, well, it sounds fucking great. The Hyperions rip through some astonishing pieces, and then there's this cover of "Paint It Black" (complete with the aforementioned marimba) that must be heard to be believed. An acquired taste, surely, but a fine one nonetheless. -- Aiding and Abetting This is third CD from Hyperions. And their best. Previous ones were good too, so this is just excellent! 11 originals + two covers, including cool version of Rolling Stones' "Paint In Black". The Hyperions music is cool mixture of rockabilly, punk, blues, swing & jazz. Three piece band with full sound, here's also some extra horns, keyboards, marimba & vibraphone.
