Shinola, one of Seattle's purest and most popular live bands, will release their long-awaited full-length debut, Lucky Stars, on Nov. 27, 2001. Featuring eleven examples of Shinola's swing-from-the-heels brand of Midwest-meets-Southwest rock, Lucky Stars caps off a watershed year for the quartet. Capitalizing on a resurgent appreciation for the high-energy, bar-band rock (see: Replacements, Del Fuegos, Jason and the Scorchers, etc.) of the 80s, the group performed outside of the Emerald City more than ever in 2001. Taking their gritty, hard-charging live set to such stellar venues as Los Angeles' House of Blues, San Francisco's Great American Music Hall, and Washington's famed Gorge Ampitheater (opening for John Mellencamp), Shinola startled unsuspecting crowds up and down the West Coast this year - and converted a small legion of followers along the way. September found the band back in Seattle with new drummer Mike Nelson (Lower 48), taking time off to finally put to tape material honed onstage. Longtime fans will not be disappointed (and new fans are sure to be made) by the stunning result - Lucky Stars contains blistering live staples such as "Nothing Going On," "Now You're Gone," and "Don't Change" - plus newer material, including the moody lament, "Should Have Believed In Love," and the ringing, radio-for-radio title track. From it's raucous beginning to the blazing end, Lucky Stars is music for drinking, dancing, or driving - rock for both the open road and smoke-filled roadhouses.
