When you listen to Nathan Sheppard's CD, "Traveling On," a listener will undoubtedly form fast and definitive opinions.

His voice for instance is an awkward yet somehow familiar ingredient in the folk singers off kilter tradition via Young, Dylan, Taylor etc. Sheppard has a distinctive sound, a twang or a bend in pronunciation that gives the songs their flavor and personality. This element is perhaps the most original or unique aspect of his style.

You can hear the obvious talent of some great performerson this CD. In fact, if as a listener you enjoy the folk- alternative / rock sound and style, then you may very well find this Nathan Sheppard CD a great album.

As far as the lyrical content of the album I feel that Sheppard has proven that he has something to say; the writing is interesting, relative to anybody's mind and character, and at times purely entertaining. It is apparent from listening to songs like the title track and "Pleasin'," that Sheppard has lived, loved, lost, and wondered then lived some more. Everyone can say the same but not everyone can frame that feeling in a song. There are moments within "Traveling On" that prove Sheppard's ability to shape a song with the help of the filth and tiring dust that settles into the shape of time.
