Cravedog Records would like the honor of introducing you to Little Sue.

Anchored by guitarist/vocalist Susannah Jean Weaver, Little Sue deftly mines forth 24-karat nuggets that hark back to some of America?s deepest musical roots and can simultaneously set your toes-a-tappin? and heart-a-breakin?. For reference points, consider Kitty Wells in her heyday, Emmylou Harris and Jean Shepard?s earlier efforts. Little Sue?s ensemble of Portland notables take the tethers of traditional country, bluegrass, Americana and spirited pop and weave them into something that is somehow deeply familiar yet wholly unique and delightful.

Chimneys and Fishes marks Little Sue?s formal introduction to the world. Making her way to Portland from West Virginia, Sue first gained notice as a somewhat stage-shy member of the Crackpots. Coaxing, comfort and a desire for more led her away, initially to help out the Jim Boyer Band by strapping on a washboard and filling in for Pete Krebs. ?I had never played the washboard before?I don?t know what made me do it,? she confesses. We don?t know either, but we are certainly glad she ventured out. Shoot, we?re still pondering the kazoo break in ?Spring Becomes You, Rachel? (a song for a lovelorn Sissyface drummer) and the snorting at the tail of her humorous depiction of Holy Modal Rounders icon Steve Weber. We don?t question Little Sue. We just revel in her riches. Her tales. ?These are just the little stories that I have to get out,? she says of her creations. So really, Chimneys and Fishes is an introduction to Sue and her cast of characters. It?s beginning to look like a party around here?

From the chugging saunter and double entendres of ?Whiskey Hat? to the gentle sway and naked confession?s of ?Bad Girl,? Little Sue has served up a bakers dozen tasty, made-from-scratch, oven-fresh treats. Enjoy.
