With the success of their independent release Nowhere Near Here, Alex Woodard and his band (members of the Posies, Gigolo Aunts, and Fountains of Wayne, among others) spent a lot of time on the road, and they've returned to Southern California from the Pacific Northwest with their sophomore release, Saturn Returns.

PRAISE FOR SATURN RETURNS
"At a time when sensation is celebrated over substance, Alex Woodard is a modern rock poet poised to go cross-genre..." -Rockpile

"His voice is the embodiment of emotion. it's like your best friend is singing to you, but with a depth of love and longing that you never knew he possessed. This is the record you could buy any one of your friends, regardless of their musical tastes, and know that they will be thanking you for a long time." -Hilary, drivetime DJ for San Diego's 91X

"For a mesmerizing rock experience, pick up Alex Woodard's album, "Saturn Returns". Chock full of electric guitar riffs and his charming yet gruff voice, Woodard flexes his potential stardom muscle with a combination of tunes that will keep you wondering about life and love. It's kind of impressive how he can be belting out hard rock in one track, and back to a romantic piano song in the next. "Every Road You Go", is the kind of song with the honest message that love can exist without the confines of romantic boundaries - I felt so "safe" simply by listening to Woodard belt out this supportive ballad. "December 14" is another great tune with piano and cello arrangements that seem to echo in my heart long after the tune is over. Woodard as a whole, to me, is very reminiscent of The Calling. I can't wait to hear his upcoming work, featuring Pete Droge. For now, this album reminds me that Woodard still has a ways to go in the music world, and I can't wait to watch him make his journey." -Discovering Artists

"Woodard is back with his band of Seattle pop castaways. The songs are as thoughtful and full of grace as can be imagined. I'm still at a loss to figure out how it is Woodard is still releasing these songs on his own." -Aiding and Abetting

"Saturn Returns is overflowing with catchy, radio-worthy pop. Although singer/songwriter Alex Woodard gets some outstanding production help from a veteran studio band, these tunes wouldn't reach out and grab you without Woodard's driving talent. The song flow is seamless - from the Adam Schmitt-ish "Every Road" to "December 14," which features a string arrangement right out of vintage Harry Chapin. The combination of Woodard's husky voice and plenty of rocking guitars make this one interstellar album." -Amplifier Magazine

"VERY catchy roots pop that sounds like a more upbeat Edwin McCain, almost bordering on nu-breed at times and Ben Folds piano pop at others. The rockers are crunchy and instantly likeable while the ballads are heartfelt without being sappy, Alex's voice is gruff yet on target. With songs like "Photograph", "Other Than Roses" and the haunting "Holding The Knife", Alex should be ruling radio with little problem. Lyrically superior to most of what's out there. Marvelous..." - SFK

Saturn Returns was born in Alex's living room in the winter of 2002, and recorded this spring at Jupiter Studios in Seattle. Sparsely arranged piano songs are balanced by the power of a full-flight rock band with drummer Brian Young (Fountains of Wayne, Ivy, the Posies), Joe Bass (Posies, Sunny Day Real Estate, Sky Cries Mary), guitarist Phil Hurley (Gigolo Aunts, Tracy Bonham), and Alex's longtime guitarist Abel Ames. And like his previous release, Saturn Returns was produced by Martin Feveyear, whose credits include the critically acclaimed I'll Take Care of You from Mark Lanegan. Feveyear is also known for his work with the Screaming Trees, Duff McKagan (Guns 'n Roses), Rosie Thomas, the Briefs, Pete Droge, Cornershop, Modest Mouse, Queens of the Stone Age, and many other Northwest acts.

Alex and the band now live in Southern California, where they play shows together and with great bands like Fountains of Wayne, Gigolo Aunts, and Ivy.
