When he was five years old Steve McClain received his first Beatles album. That was all it took. Two years later at age seven he began studying the guitar and embarked upon a lifelong journey of exploring, writing and performing music, all which have helped to develop his unique style of rootsy, acoustically driven songwriting.

In 1995, Steve began began performing in coffee houses in the Akron area as a solo singer/guitarist to enthusiastic audiences. This move was followed by a continuous performance schedule, which included shows at numerous coffee houses, pubs, festivals and bookstores in the Ohio and West Virginia area while occasionally performing as far away as Macon, Georgia.

In the fall of 2000, Steve began work on his first solo CD, "Born In Captivity". Released in January 2001, the disc features nine tracks of original compositions fueled by McClain's acoustic guitar and sincere voice. Steve also plays bass, drums, banjo and harmonica on the disc, which features Jennifer Klich on the viola. After January's successful release party, the CD was made available at Borders Books & Music and Time Traveler CDs in northeast Ohio. In February 2001, 91.3 WAPS-FM in Akron, Ohio began spinning tracks from "Born In Captivity" in regular rotation. Tracks from "Born In Captivity" are also heard on WDUB Internet radio in Cleveland, Ohio. Also in 2001, Steve was featured on a compilation CD showcasing the best of Akron/Cleveland artists, entitled Bandwidth 2.0, sponsored by 91.3-FM The Summit in Akron, Ohio while continuing to perform regularly with violist Matt Schildt.

Steve's second full-length solo effort, "Lemonadestand", was recorded at Miles Robert Audio in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio and released in November 2002. The disc features Matt Schildt on viola and keys, Todd Hemberger on drums and Jeff McCrystal on bass. "Lemonadestand" is a tight package of nine original tunes, plus a distinctive cover of Elton John's 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road'. The band was recently part of the 2003 Cleveland Music Festival and can been heard regularly in the Kent/Akron/Cleveland area. "Lemonadestand" is available at Borders in Cuyahoga Falls, Niles, North Canton and Westlake, Ohio and on line at cdbaby.com
