Stephen Thomas King

Stephen is a tremendously anointed song writer, worship leader, and preacher; yet he has not even finished college yet. When most teenagers are still trying to figure out what they are going to do in life, Stephen has been busy reaching people for Jesus. It has been said that Stephen is twenty years ahead of his age.

At the age of five, he preached for the first time. At the age of six, he became a missionary along with his parents. At the age of nine, he began leading worship with his guitar. At the age of ten, he started his own ministry. At the age of sixteen he released his first music recording. At the age of seventeen, he produced a weekly radio show. He has ministered in hundreds of America's largest churches and has visited over twenty countries preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Here are some of the stepping stones that have led to his success.

Mission to Mexico
Stephen Thomas King has been called by God since a young age. His parents became missionaries to the country of Mexico when he was only six years old. Even though Stephen was still a kid, he helped them minister from the very beginning. To be part of the King family was to be part of the ministry. Stephen grew up doing puppet skits and dramas in front of huge crowds of children. As he saw thousands of Mexican children saved, he made a commitment to God that he would dedicate the rest of his life to reaching people with the good news of Jesus Christ.

Musical Beginnings
Stephen often tells a story about the day that helped define his destiny. He says, "I vividly remember a monumental day in my childhood when I found part of my destiny. I was playing with some friends near a trash bin when I discovered a small guitar someone had thrown away. To them it was trash, but to my six year old mind, it was a treasure! That guitar only had three strings, but I can still remember plucking out my first song on those strings. To anyone listening it sounded like noise... to me it sounded like destiny."

Where did my strings go?
When the trash bin guitar wore out, Stephen decided he needed a "real" guitar. So, he saved up all his allowance for several months and went to a market in Mexico to bargain for a guitar. In Mexico, you have to talk with the shopkeepers until both of you agree on a fair price for what you are wanting to buy. Well, Stephen haggled with the store owner until he had bargained him down to the amount of money Stephen had with him. The shop keeper did not want to let that guitar go for such a low price, but Stephen is the king of making good deals.

Later that same day, two of the strings on the guitar broke. Stephen was almost in tears. The guitar he had worked so hard for was now broken. One of the team members who was ministering with the King family in Mexico felt compassion for this young guitar player. As a seed into Stephen's life, he took the strings off his guitar and put them on Stephen's guitar. A smile lit up Stephen's face as he finally began to play his very own guitar. When the team member arrived home at his church, he wanted to show the entire congregation the type of songs the team had played on the mission field. When he opened up his guitar case, there was his guitar but there were no guitar strings. He could not figure out what had happened until he remembered that he had given them to Stephen.

That present of guitar strings was a gift that launched Stephen's anointed music ministry. You never know how much fruit one kind deed will produce.

Gozo the Clown
When Stephen was nine years old, he and his brother Daniel started "Clowns for Christ, International." With this dynamic children's ministry, they have now traveled to over twenty countries reaching children. Stephen plays the part of Gozo the Clown. He provides much of the comic relief during the show as the two brothers pass seven juggling clubs, ride unicycles, play games, and preach life-changing sermons. All the original music in the show was written by Stephen and kids love to hear him sing his silly songs.

Radio Show
Even though Stephen was ministering to thousands of children, he felt he was not doing enough the reach the teenagers his own age. After holding a strategy session, he decided the best way to reach his generation was through the media. Several people told him he was way too young to produce his own radio show, but he did not listen. The "Prelude Radio Show" was born. This was a weekly hour long show on two different radio stations.
This show proved to be a growing experience for Stephen since he was forced to devote hours of his time each week to studying the Bible in order to be prepared to bring a life changing message to his generation. Being on the radio was also a faith-growing opportunity for Stephen since he was forced to come up with thousands of dollars to pay for air time.

Preaching at Youth Groups
The radio show quickly became one of the most listened to shows in Stephen's area. Dozens of youth pastors began inviting Stephen to minister at their youth groups. That year, Stephen did over one hundred live ministry engagements as he challenged thousands of youth to find and fulfill their God given purpose.

Playing the Guitar
Stephen devoted many long hours to playing on his guitar. After he had mastered the basics, he became fascinated by the world of classical music. Under the guidance of top-quality teachers, he learned to play the music of Vavaldi, Bach, Beethoven, and Aguado. Soon, Stephen was making hundreds of dollars playing music for restaurants, coffee houses, and private parties. But, even though he was making a lot of money, he was not satisfied with this life. God was calling him to use his musical talent to reach the world.
Stephen started developing his song writing skills and he quickly became a talented song writer and an anointed musician. He released his first recording in 1999 and his first full length CD project in 2002. "I Died the Other Day" has proved to be his top seller. It is full of songs which challenge people to give their all to God.

The Name
Stephen King often gets questioned about his name which is the same name used by a best-selling non-Christian author. The question most people ask is: "Has anyone ever asked you about your name before?" In reply, Stephen always says that he is redeeming the name. He is the Christian Stephen King, but because of the similarity between the two names, he uses Stephen Thomas King as his stage name.

The Future
Stephen has set three goals for his music. First, he wants to record and produce music people can live by. Second, he wants to produce live shows that help local churches. Third, he wants to inspire and motivate the next generation of Christian artists. The music he has already produced is just the beginning. Keep your eye on him because if the past is any indicator, he is destined to reach the top of the music industry in the near future!
