Kevin Baker is the director of worship and arts at Victory Life Church in Battle Creek, Michigan. Kevin is a forerunner of young worship leaders who has worked with various Christian artists, including Darrel Evans, Michael Gungor, Curt Coffield, Pam Thum and many more. His style is comparable to that of Lincoln Brewster, Chris Tomlin, and David Crowder, just a few contemporary worship leaders. Kevin Baker has always had a passion for music. Growing up as a child, his parents surrounded him with their love of all different styles of music. From Big Band to 50's & 60's to Country to modern day....it was bound to take over within his personal life as well. At the age of 3, Kevin got his first drum set. After 15 years of drums, he found a new love in the guitar. Able to take it wherever he could, he would. Experimenting with songwriting, he found a new love in being able to express himself and his feelings by writing it all to music. Early on in his song writing, his musical influences were those of: *John Denver *James Taylor Just after graduating high school, Kevin found himself behind the drums once again. Teaming up with a well know local musician by the name of Michael Popenhagen, he toured with the oldies band "The DeVilles" for about 3 years. When the band came to its end, Kevin found great friendship still within Mike. After some time as a duo working on a country music career, Mike began to really learn about Kevin and his life. After many prayers, Mike began to share the word of God with Kevin. Though much time went by, one night the Spirit took total control of Kevin's heart, he called Mike to get together and talk, and by the end of the night, Kevin was on his knee's beginning his new life with Jesus Christ. That life-changing moment began a journey that eventually led Kevin to become the worship leader at First Wesleyan Church of Battle Creek, MI. and now Victory Life Church of Battle Creek, MI. During his 7 years as a worship leader, Kevin has been blessed with many different worshiping opportunities. He has recorded his first full length studio produced Praise and Worship cd called "Break Me", that highlights many well know worship songs along with many written by Kevin himself. He has teamed up along side many other well known worship leaders such as: *Darrell Evans - Integrity Music recording artist / worship leader - songwriter of "Trading My Sorrows", "Let The River Flow", "Your Love Is Extravagant" and many others. *Curt Coffield - Promise Keepers Worship Leader - Maranatha Music / Integrity Music songwriter - known for such songs as "You've Won My Affection", "Just A Glimpse", "All Around" and many others. *Michael Gungor - Integrity Music recording artist / worship leader - songwriter for such songs as "Friend of God", "Move Me", "Wrap Me In Your Arms" and many others. Kevin is a seasoned songwriter/musician whose love for God is apparent in the songs he writes and the way he worships. Current musical / songwriting influences include: *Chris Tomlin *John Mayer *David Crowder *Michael Gungor *Passion Kevin says, "Music is one thing that everyone can relate to. When you put a positive element such as the truth and goodness of God, lives are changed. It's all about experiencing God through song." His use of the acoustic and electric guitars, along with different keyboard sounds gives his music an organic, earthy feel, but with an element of pop rock as well. "I've been extremely blessed with all that I've experienced so far. I can't wait to see the rest of the plan God has for me. He promises that there's more to life.", Kevin says.
