A co-release with Portland based label Erasmus Records. 17 stripped down acoustic tracks by Cuspidor in a hand-screened pack. Originally conceived of as musical, The Keys to Quezaltenango is the story of two men from the states, one dead and one alive, who travel to Guatemala for very different reasons. The live one is in pursuit of a girl he met over the internet. The dead one is fleeing the law on foot (though, of course, the law is not much interested in arresting dead people). Both arrive in Quezaltenango in the midst of that city's perpetual spring. The ghost has a much easier time picking up the language.

Eventually the live guy's plans are spoiled, not by the combined efforts of the ghost, a homeless man, an Evangelical missionary, a backpacker, a pious bar tender, and a local ne'er do well, but by the intelligence of the 17-year-old object of his despicable desire.

Lucas Bernhardt is the songwriter of Cuspidor. He plays stripped down quiet acoustic pop songs, with added tinkerings from other members that round out the band's sound which is reminiscent of Will Oldham, Neil Halstead, Silver Jews, Smog, or Lambchop.

Lucas has played in a few bands including Rosenthal and Papercuts (which featured Jason Quever from Rosenthal), plus a brief stint as the bass player for Roy Tinsel.

As early as 1994, Lucas started recording under the moniker of Cuspidor. He has played shows with Kill Me Tomorrow, Cass McCombs, Pond, Pansy Division, Xiu Xiu, Casiotone For The Painfully Alone, Wandering Lucy, Libby Kirkpatrick, The Low Down, Jackpot, Little Wings, and Oliver Brown.

Cuspidor plays to huge crowds in Guatemala and in the Republic of Kiribatu. That is why some of the songs are in Spanish.
