The band Upstream, whose members include three sons of the venerable inventor of Soca music, the late Ras Shorty I, was formed in the republic of Trinidad & Tobago in the late 1980's. Based in Southern California since the early nineties, they have made a name for themselves performing in numerous clubs, functions and festivals, throughout California, Nevada and Utah. Their energetic style of rock influenced Reggae, Techno, Funk, Hip Hop and Soca has earned them a formidable appellation in the music industry world. They have been the toast of various reputable publications. One journalist went so far as to say, "It would be a detriment to your health if you don't go to see these guys play live". (Mean Street Magazine February, 2000). They have also done opening slots for various international acts, such REM, Dave Matthews Band, The Wailers, Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Harvey Danger, Inner Circle, Wailing Souls and Jimmy Buffett to name a few. The line up is as follows: Haile Blackman (Lead Vocals, Rhythm Guitar), began his professional career singing and playing drums in his Fathers band The Love Circle in his early adolescence. He has loaned his expertise to various famous artists such as: Etta James, Herb Alpert, English Beat and Ben Harper. John is also currently a member of Fishbone. Stokley Molineaux (Guitar, Bass, Lead Vocals, Rapper) son of the renown Jazz Pianist Othello Molineaux, is a profound poet and songwriter. He has toured the world with such acts as Pato Banton, Ras Michael, Joe Higgs, Wailing Souls, Calypso Rose and Eek-A-Mouse. Johnny Blackman (Drums) is the newest addition to the band.
