If you believe the critics, it's all been done. Nothing is new anymore, and everything is derivative. It's not a very inspiring perspective, although it seems dangerously possible. So whether or not we as individuals choose to support that theory, there are only a few sensible responses. Let's compare the problem to walking the scaffolding on a contruction site. One option is to cling to the boards and beams, hoping there's something safe (or musically original) left. Another is to totally give in and copy what sells -- this is like jumping off (it avoids slipping, but is just as messy). But the last choice seems to be the best yet (ironically, the same advice given and then ignored in most action films) -- don't look down. In other words, don't worry too much about the events of the past or the future. Rather than trying to be different from (or the same as) other performers, the most honest response is so much simpler -- do what feels right.

Union Pulse is 3 young men from south-eastern Wisconsin, writing, recording, and gigging original rock and roll.
