About the Artist The Reds began as one of the most powerful guitar and keyboard-based bands of the late New Wave, starting in Philadelphia in the late seventies. Several albums later, they became the duo of Rick Shaffer on electric guitar and vocals, and Bruce Cohen on keyboards, backed by Mike Thorne's rhythm and synthesizers. They made further recordings for Sire. Their music was featured in early episodes of Miami Vice, and they continued scoring for movies such as Michael Mann's Manhunter. Album Description One of the most forceful combinations ever of rock+roll attitude and tough synthesizers, Cry Tomorrow is a reworked version of their outstandingly powerful original 1992 release on independent alternative label Tarock Music. The Reds' Bruce Cohen and Rick Shaffer deal in a menacingly modern sound spectrum worthy of far greater exposure than up to now. With an immediately identifiable sound, via the combination of droning keyboards and guitar and Shaffer's haunting monotone vocals, they come up with hooks that creep insidiously into the brain. Cohen's keyboards are a consistent promising voice in The Red's instrumental sound, with Shaffer's unique guitar lines providing the momentum. The atmosphere runs from basic moody to flat-out aggressive, particular standouts being the title track, Cry Tomorrow, Terror In My Heart, the sinister Waiting For You (featured spectacularly in the Manhunter soundtrack), and a radical new cover of the Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter. Backed by a varied collection of New York's notable session vocalists which push the sounds further home, the production delivery keeps it all as clean and sharp as a new scalpel.
