Year of Saturdays exists somewhere within the gray dividing folk and rock, as if one's ears were pointed simultaneously toward Simon and Garfunkel, and Brian Eno. The songs reflect not only Tangelo's willingness to explore tried structures, but to embellish them with noises new to the folk/rock genre: old suitcases and buckets sit alongside dumbeks and snares as standards of percussion; bass and guitar splash suddenly into puddles of crusty distortion; and synthesizers plunk like a child in a toy store through some tracks, while adding a stargazing atmosphere to others. "I see these tunes billowing out the car window on a summer night as you blow cross-country on lonely two-lane roads. It's road music for evenings slowly turning purple and losing their heat, for pausing briefly beside the last roadside motel for 200 miles, jamming the repeat button, spinning out of the gravel parking lot and listening again as the stars come out one by one." - Jennifer Kelly, splendid e-zine Check out the artist's website: http://www.isochromatic.com/tangelo Track List: 1.
