CD REVIEW - MAY 1996 You just cant trust these studios to choose your listening line-up. Track this disc backwards - 8, 6, 4, 1. You'll find several sleek influences here but luckily a distinct style prevails - perfect for an edgy Baja cliff ride or an unexpected rendezvous with 10 or 20 friends. The lyrics are romantical, the beat half-rocking between lib and conserve - almost like traveling blowfish. The fretting is way bueno! These Maldonado brothers (Dave, Luis, and Hector) can pull strings. Song #8, Waiting for I'm Sorry has mesmerizing harmony - kind of Crosby-Nashy. Song #6, Circus, and #4, That Look, are much more upbeat. Song #1, Love Alive, is a singer - pleasurably Brucey except no one loses his job, kicks a dead dog, or begs for understanding. It's also a relief to hear centerline lyrics instead of X-generation morosity (uh, sorry). The entire CD has a modernized 70's rock appeal. Acoustically nostalgic but not in that bulimic Glory Days way. My friends are already cadging for copies even though the recording doesn't do the band justice. I expect the next release to be wicked hot. F you can't catch Dave and The Snakes on a San Diego Stage, crank it coming off a binge or gearing up for one. The CD may well become a collector's item (of course - with new technology, so may they all) Cher Noble for Revolt In Style Magazine - May 1996 CD Review Check out the artist's website: http://www.maldonadomusic.com Track List: 1.
