The North American debut album by the Melbourne, Australia-based quartet, originally issued by the Trifekta label (Gersey, Sodastream, Minimum Chips, Life Without Buildings, Avalanches) in Australia. Art of Fighting have been recording since their beginnings in 1995 and have continued to progress, culminating in the beautiful amalgam that is their first proper album, Wires (after two 6-song EPs on Half a Cow, The Very Strange Year and Empty Nights). Winner of the prestigious Australian Record Industry Awards' "Best Alternative Album of 2001," Wires showcases the band at the peak of their game, delivering delicate, atmospheric (yet occasionally thundering) rock that evokes Low, Seam, the Sarah Records "sound," Luna, Belle & Sebastian, Red House Painters, Galaxie 500, and even Radiohead and Coldplay. Art of Fighting have toured Australia and Europe and have performed with Cat Power, Smog, Mogwai, Stephen Malkmus, Songs Ohia, the Church and the Go-Betweens. A new album is due in 2004.
