Boston's The Gentlemen have released their third LP - Brass City Band on their own label, The Gentlemen's Recording Co. in February of 2005. Recorded on free studio time from winning the WBCN Rock n' Roll Rumble inn 2002, Brass City took nearly two and a half years to make - while only using about 2 weeks of studio time due to band members touring schedules with other bands - Mike Gent with his band The Figgs as well as Graham Parker (The Figgs are GP's live band) while the band's rhythm section tour as Juliana Hatfield's rhythm section for the last two years. "They deliver everything you could ask for from a rock 'n' roll band: Jagger struts, cataclysmic guitar rumblings, a wickedly tight rhythm section, and inexhaustible wit....Following two records of raw, juiced-up rock (2000's Ladies and Gentlemen... and 2002's Blondes Prefer the Gentlemen), the just-released Brass City Band finds the band branching out in thrilling evolution: horns, keyboards, and a democratic collection of airtight songs from Gent, Jackson, and Valauskas help make it their best album yet." - PopMatters.com The Gentlemen formed back in 1999 when Mike Gent of The Figgs joined forces with 3/4 of Boston's The Gravel Pit. They released their debut CD, Ladies and Gentlemen...The Gentlemen (Hearbox/ Q Division Records) in March of 2000. Entertainment Weekly gave the record an (A-), stating,"One minute they're crushing hearts with the catchiest skinny-tie songs Graham Parker never wrote; the next they're stumbling around like Johnny Thunders fronting the Stones. But therein lies the genius: No tribute act, these guys just revel in the sounds they love---and make you love them, too." Their sophomore slump effort, Blondes Prefer The Gentlemen was released in March of 2002. The record was made in six days or so over the course of a year by a varied cast of characters at the helm including Dave Minehan (x-Neighborhoods),Tom Polce (Bill Janovitz & Crown Victoria) and Scott Riebling (x- Letters to Cleo). Entertainment Weekly gave Blondes an (A-): "The Gentlemen party like it's 1979 - channeling Elvis Costello, The Jam, and KISS, while delivering enough hooks to suspend a naked Pavarotti in a modern-primitive ritual." Most recently, The Gentlemen opened a few dates on Juliana Hatfield's most recent tour, opened for Louis XIV, and played at Fenway Park as part of Boston Red Sox GM Theo Epstein and Peter Gammons's charity concert - "Hot Stove, Cool Music" as well as backed up the legendary Graham Parker at the Orpheum in Boston.
