It's hard slap a convenient label on "Carnival of Souls." On one hand, it's a decidely "heavy" record, with nods to Led Zep, Deep Purple, Zappa, Sabbath and psychedelia. In fact, two of the albums stand-out tracks are covers of psychedelic masterpieces -- The Doors "Strange Days" and The Beatles "Tomorrow Never Knows." Both capture the spirit of the originals, and update them for the 90's. No easy feat! As for the original material most songs showcase Brian Kroll's considerable songwriting skill. This is an extremely vital first effort, and there's no mistaking that Brian Kroll is on to something. Definitely an artist to keep your eye on. Also worth noting -- the production on this disc is killer - it sounds truly amazing! And, the level of musicianship of his various sidemen is well above the norm. All in all -- I'd suggest that it's definitely worth adding to your collection, and further, give it the repeated listenings it demands. It will be worth the effort! Musicians: Brian Kroll (Guitar), Bob Stander (Electric Guitars, Acoustic Guitars, Bass), John O'Rielly (Drums), Steven Wright-Mark (Keyboards), Paul Errico (Keyboards), Greg Smith (Bass-tracks 1,6,8), Mark Newman (Background Vocals), John Michel (Background Vocals), Chris Cavill (Lead and Backing Vocals), Scott Gramlich (Sitar).
