Recorded in a basement in Elizabethtown over Christmas break, 2001. These are The Green Onions' first eight songs written as a band and captured here in raw form. The self-titled, eight song demo disc was officially released in March of 2002 and is currently sold out...forever. A new album is in the works and will likely be released by fall 2004. Stay informed at thegreenonions.net! Central Pennsylvania is an area where nothing ever seems to happen. However, there is a fresh, yet somewhat familiar sound soaring through the cow-filled pastures of Lancaster County. It is the sound of The Green Onions. In these times of flashy musicians, gimmick-based songwriting, and the all too common, "I hate my life," rock bands, The Green Onions are offering an alternative. This band wants to create music for the sake of creating music. Be prepared for hard rocking guitar solos, sturdy song sections, and free-flowing jams. Over the past few years, The Green Onions have worked to create an original sound integrating their influences. The growling and screaming organ-work is provided by Cort Byron whose style shows his appreciation for the great organ players of 1960's rhythm and blues and rock n' roll. Corty Byron incorporates his love of jazz and blues into his screaming, soaring guitar solos, and his strong vocals bring to mind great singers like Joe Cocker and Greg Allman. Thundering beneath everything are Mike Dinse's melodic bass lines and speedy scale runs, which stem from influences like Jack Bruce, John Entwistle, and Mike Gordon. Scott Frenchek adds a wonderful textural touch with his unconventional keyboard work. Drummer John Gasparich seeps rhythmic textures as he channels influences like Billy Martin, John Fishman, and John Bonham. Finally, the hypnotic, crisp, rhythmic chopping and sweet, melodic, guitar solos are provided by hard-headed Italian, Chris Gurreri. In the future, the band looks to keep playing. In a time where it seems every rock band sounds the same, The Onions are working to create music from within, not based on record industry sales and standards. When you go to the music store three doors down from that big puddle of mud and you want your nickel back, its time for a change. Unlike many "rock" bands on the scene today, this band has done their homework. They pay homage to the past, while setting a course for the future. Within the songs of this band you will find a voice of a generation that has been brought up too fast, and is looking for answers. The Green Onions will continue to bring fresh things to the music scene in Central Pennsylvania, and perhaps the world, with the support of those who are tired of cookie-cutter bands and want something new.
