TEDS'N'ROCKERS 'Teds'n'Rockers' is a stunning 25-track compilation from the Japanese cult label 'Revel Yell Music'. Munetoshi Tagaki, the label owner, spent much of 2003 pulling together rock'n'roll and rockabilly bands and artists from most European countries as well as Scandinavia and Brazil, using keywords such as 'Rocker', 'Ace Cafe', 'British Bikes', 'Brighton', 'The Ton' and other words evoking a time when the seeds of the British Beat invasion were sown in the hearts and minds of Britain's restless youth. The U.K. itself is represented on the opening track, 'Rockin' at the Ace Cafe' by Martin Craig, who made his first visit to the famous rocker haunt in London at the age of 15 in 1961. Other tracks from Martin include the rock'n'roll club instrumental 'Fast One', his husband-and-wife duo MG & Lynnette contribute Martin's original 'Gear Jammin' Boots & a 3-Speed Hat' and there's a kickin' rockabilly version of Ersel Hickey's 'Goin' Down That Road Feelin' Blue' , recorded in 1979 by Martin's band Diesel & The Firebirds. The Sabrejets from Belfast, Northern Ireland write and play storming original material. Here are two of their hard-driving tracks, 'Too Fast To Live' and their fast, dark and spooky-cool instrumental, '39th & Norton'. German rock'n'roll is strongly represented with the fabulous bands Rawhide (with 'Ridin' With The Rockers' and 'All Night Rockers') Black Raven (with 'Mound Of Clay') The Ton Up Rockers (with 'Rockers' Mood') and The Crusaders (with the classic tracks 'Saturday Night At The Duck Pond' and 'Shakin' All Over'). The Forbidden Rockers from the island of Mallorca contribute 'Just For Kicks' and 'Born To Be Ted', and The Megatones from mainland Spain make a strong showing with 'Boogie Bop Dame' and the great instrumental 'Midnight'. The Confederate Teds (with 'Road Of Steel') and The Long Black Jackets (with 'Broken Heart') represent the rockin' scene in France, whilst Austrian band The Rioters keep the rock'n'roll flame burning bright in their native land with 'Riot Time'. Duke and the Vi-Kings from Finland do a great version of 'Gee Whizz It's You' and Crazy Legs from Brazil complete this mix of nations with another great biker song, 'Jack & His Triumph'. But there's more! The multi-national Jungle Tigers, who have members from both Germany and Spain, play on a rockin' re-make of the classic Vince Taylor song, 'Brand New Cadillac'. 'World Music' often means World FOLK Music - but with 'Teds'n'Rockers', Mune Tagaki has brought the cream of the world's Rockers together on one winning album that celebrates the twin joys of a fast motorcycle and a rockin' beat.
